First: is it the scanner or the printer?
| Prints from PC | Copies | Likely area |
|---|---|---|
| Fine | Faded | Scanner: glass, optics, exposure setting, the original itself |
| Faded | Faded | Print engine: toner, drum, developer, transfer roller, paper |
| Faded on one side of the page | Same | Uneven toner, worn drum, or a developer or laser fault |
Causes and fixes
- Low toner: replace it, or rock the cartridge gently as a short-term fix. See toner and ink in Kochi.
- Density or toner-save setting: check copy density, exposure and economy mode in the settings.
- Light original: increase copy density or use text/photo mode.
- Dirty platen glass or feeder strip: clean with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Worn drum: replace it at its rated life; a worn drum gives light, uneven or grey output.
- Damp paper: use paper from a freshly opened ream. Moist paper takes toner poorly.
- Transfer roller or high-voltage fault: needs a technician.
